DIY Ice Eater ? 822 Views 5 Replies 4 Participants Last post by MNOutdoorman1, Aug 8, 2016.. I'm not talking about something that can defrost 1' solid ice, but how about something that could handle sheet ice on the surface of the water, say ice that is 1/2" to 1" thick. Anyone ever do some experiments?

dasimmon. Not trying to burst your bubble, but I built one of these 6 or 7 years ago that looked damn similar to yours. 55 lb thrust trolling motor. Didn't move hardly enough water to justify setting it up. We run ice eaters a fair bit now and I would estimate it moved 5% of the water volume of a 1/2 hp ice eater.

Home-made Ice eater. I have a couple old trolling motors and am thinking about trying to convert them into ice-eaters. They both have 9" props so I'm thinking about mounting one inside of a 10" PVC pipe that's about 18-24 inches long. Build a stand for it and rig it up with dual batteries so it can run on 24 volts.
